INSPECTION AND RECERTIFICATION

Companies are legally required to provide a safe working environment which means that once a fall protection system has been installed it should be regularly maintained and serviced to ensure it is safe to use at all times. If an accident does occur and the equipment is found to be faulty and/or uncertified then you could be held accountable.

Inspection and recertification of systems is much more than simply ticking a box and issuing a certificate which is why it’s essential that you only employ a competent company/person to carry out the recertification of your equipment and systems.

COMPETENT RECERTIFICATION

Work at height is a specialised area of health & safety so it is important that you ensure you commission a competent company/person to assess the risks appropriately in accordance with the work at height hierarchy.

The Roof Anchor Company is Roof Edge Fabrications’ dedicated recertification company which specialises in the inspection and recertification of fall protection equipment such as roof anchors, life lines and guardrails. The Roof Anchor Company’s qualified engineers will also inspect and certify PPE such as lanyards and harnesses used in conjunction with these systems to ensure complete safety.

The Roof Anchor Company’s engineers are all qualified work at height professionals so you can be confident that they are competent in identifying and assessing the significance of any defects in your equipment or system.

SETTING SAFETY STANDARDS

Depending on the equipment installed, some or all of the following regulations and standards may require you to ensure compliance via inspection and recertification by a competent company/person .

BS EN 7883:2005 Code of practice for the design, selection, installation, use and maintenance of anchor devices conforming to BS EN 795
BS EN 365: 2004 Personal protective equipment against falls from a height
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
Work at Height Regulations
Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended)
Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

We’ve produced a short infographic video to help companies understand more clearly the importance of annual inspection and recertification and to show what could happen if an accident occurs on an uncertified system.
