Roof Edge Fabrications has installed a cantilever freestanding guardrail system at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Fife to allow safe access to the centre’s roof. The edge protection system was specified due to the flexibility of the design and because it could be installed without the need to penetrate the roof.

The freestanding edge protection system was installed to allow safe access for mechanical and plant equipment which is housed on the centre’s roof. The system is designed to provide protection where regular access to the roof is required. The counter weight system provides protection without the need to mechanically fix the protection system through the roof’s membrane. This was an important factor for Neil Mackie the Centre Manager as this design means that costly leakage can be avoided as the roof’s membrane does not have to be punctured during installation.
